セツブンソウ
（節分草、学名：Eranthis pinnatifida）は、日本原産で、キンポウゲ科セツブンソウ属の耐寒性多年草（球根植物）。石灰岩地帯で落葉樹林帯の斜面に自生します。セツブンソウという名前は、旧暦の節分に開花することに由来。

早春に、直立した茎先端部に位置した総苞葉の中心から花茎を伸ばし、白い五弁花を１個付けます。これは、実際には花弁ではなく、萼です。

実際の花は白い萼の中央にありますが、花弁が退化しており、先端が2又に分かれた黄色い蜜腺になっています。
花弁の内側には青紫色の葯をつけた雄蕊が取り囲みます。花の中央に薄紅色をした雌蕊が突き出ます。全草に毒が有ります。

属名の「Eranthis」は、ラテン語で、「er（春）＋anthos（花）」で、「春の花」という意味です。
種小名の「pinnatifida」は「羽状分裂の」の意味で、総苞片状の葉に由来します。　
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　		セツブンソウ（節分草、Eranthis pinnatifida）、キンポウゲ科セツブンソウ属の多年草[5][6]。漢名には菟葵。

地下に球状で径0.8-1.5cmの暗褐色をした塊茎があり、下からひげ根を出す。
茎は高さ10-30cmになり、その上方に2個の茎葉が無柄で輪生する。
茎葉は長さ2-2.5cm、幅3-5.5cmになり、深く羽状に切れ込み、裂片は広線形となる。根出葉は単生し、葉柄は長さ7-15cm、五角状円形で長さ幅ともに1-5cmになり、3全裂し、さらに羽状に欠刻する[5][6][7]。
花期は2-4月。花は茎先に単生し、白色で径2-2.5cmになる。花柄は茎葉から出て長さ0.5-1cmになり、細かい絨毛がある。花弁に見えるのは花弁状の萼片で、ふつう5個。花弁は5-10個あり、先端は2裂し、黄色から橙黄色の蜜腺になる。雄蕊は多数あり葯は淡紫色になる。雌蕊は2-5個。果実は袋果となり、種子は径2mmになり、褐色で表面はなめらかである[5][6][7]。

解説
吉備高原面で県東部に分布が偏っている．人家の裏･果樹園･墓地など定期的に草刈りが行われるような環境に群生する．日当たりのよい場所では2月上旬から開花し，3月上旬が見ごろ．

セツブンソウShibateranthis pinnatifida (Maxim.) Satake & Okuyamaは節分の頃に開花しはじめるので，その名がある．
キンポウゲ科に属し、その中でクリスマスローズ亜科(Helleboroideae)に位置する。

Even as the rain stopped late Tuesday morning, a deluge and swollen rivers created “historic and catastrophic” flooding in Vermont, Gov. Phil Scott (R) said Tuesday, with officials warning that more rainfall is expected as early as Thursday, threatening another wave of flooding and damage.

“This is nowhere near over,” Scott said.

More than 100 people have been rescued by boat as authorities rushed to rescue those stranded in hard-hit and remote areas. Thousands have lost homes or businesses and “countless” roads have been washed out, authorities said. No deaths had been reported in the state, but officials said search-and-rescue would take at least several days. Officials hoped to begin damage assessments by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
