ハスの花は、朝、早起きして見に来てくれる人にだけやさしいようだ。
その季節になるといつも「行きたい」と思うのだけれど、その場所は少しずつ遠のいていく。ハスはいつものように咲いていた。でも、あの頃のように、朝早く急いで、あの香しい匂いを楽しんだ日のようには咲いていてはくれなかった。

光則寺はSpecial、懐かしくて大好き。
Rageh Omaarさんが久しぶりに英国のテレビ番組に現れた。2003-2004年、彼はBBCのイラクレポーターとして世界中の注目を集めた(Our man in Baghdad)。サダムフセインを「追いつめて」行く、米国、英国の軍隊を追い、ある種の熱狂の中にいた彼は、大量破壊兵器がなかったことが明らかになる頃からピタリと活動を止めた。
その後、アフリカのレポートやアルジャジ―ラでの活動のあと、ITVのレポーターになったようだ。ソマリアに生まれ英国で学び仕事をし、矛盾の中に生きた彼は、今、困難な状況にあっても”英国の良心”を見せた Chilcot Reportの発表に合わせ、わずか1分半ながら、彼にとってのちに大きな負担と後悔の日々を生み（と私は考えている）、そしてそこから学んだこととして今視聴者に伝えたいことを語ったように思う。

Tony Blair ordered the invasion of Iraq before “peaceful options for disarmament had been exhausted”, and at a time when Saddam Hussein posed “no imminent threat”.
“Military action at that time was not a last resort,” Sir John concluded.
Nine months before the invasion in July 2002, Blair wrote to US President George W Bush to say: “I will be with you through whatever”.
But there was no support for Blair critics’ claim that he agreed a deal “signed in blood” to topple Saddam with Bush in April 2002.
Tony Blair is also said to have “overestimated his ability to influence US decisions on Iraq”.

The former UK ambassador to the UN in 2003 has said that he believed Tony Blair felt “pushed” into going to war by the Americans.
I felt that at the time, the British felt it at the time, I think the prime minister felt it at the time, that the Americans pushed us into going into military action too early.

Speaking to the BBC Sir Jeremy added that the former prime minister had wanted a UN resolution backing military intervention in Iraq, but that senior US officials thought it was a “waste of time”.

翻って日本を見ると、反省どころか正式な調査さえしていない。
YCUエクステンション講座：この2年間はずっと「歌で聴くドイツの歴史」。最初はシューベルトの「冬の旅」だった。 2016年春季講座はベートーベンの生きた時代と、その作品。
今日は彼の晩年の大作「第九」（1824年）の成り立ちとその音楽を通して彼が人々（それも今後何百年も先までの・・・）へどうしても伝えなければならなかったことについての話だった。第九は（小学生の頃から！）ずっと聴いてきたし、もう知っていると思っていた。でも今日は「全く知らなかった」ことを知った。
合唱付きの第4楽章では、それまでの第1,2,3楽章とのつながりの中から、その時代を踏み越えて「すべての人々は兄弟となる」と高らかに宣言する。
”未解決の和声”のすごさにも気づいた。そして、その先にベートーベンの伝えたかった「神の恩寵で理想が遂げられるわけではない。すべての人が兄弟となり（シラー）未解決の平等な未来を我々が闘って勝ちとるしかない」の思いがあり、その思いが強く込められているからこそ、この音楽が私たちの心を今もとらえて離さないのだ。ベートーベンは真に偉大だ！

もう20年以上も前になる。だいたい正確に(?)言うと24年前の夏。たぶん六浦駅の近くの公園か街路樹で見つけたピンクの夾竹桃の枝を2～3本手折り、白い紙にそっとつつんで病院ベッドの傍まで持っていった。「夾竹桃の花が一番大好き」と言っていたから。
5～6時間かけてそこまで行った。でも、その大好きな花を受けとめる元気はその人にはもうなかった。悲しかった、あの時。
＜YCU文系研究棟庭園のキョウチクトウ＞
だから、どんなに時間が経っても、夾竹桃の花は特別だ。花を見つけたらその時のことを思う。ヤマザクラを見るときも、ダリアを見るときも、オダマキを見るときも。。。花を見るときはいつもそれらの花が好きだった人のことを思う。私をこの世に送り出してくれた人だ。

インド原産、強い日射しと澄んだ空が似合う、夏を代表する花木
属名のネリウムはセイヨウキョウチクトウを指す古代ギリシア語のネロス(湿り気のある)から。川辺など湿り気のある場所に好んで自生する。種小名のオレアンデルは「オリーブの葉に似た」の意味で、由来はそのまま。また、変種名のインディカムは「インド産の」の意。
漢字の「夾竹桃」元々の中国での呼び名。花がモモ、葉っぱがタケに似ているということでこの名前が。
全く思いがけない英国民のEU離脱の選択には本当にびっくりした。こんなことを1/2で決める国民投票にかけて決定するのは、どうなのだろうか。投票前、投票後の論評はさまざまあるが、よく知っている英国人の反応に私が反応したものをとりあえず集めてみた。

The fuckwits have actually gone and done it. Posh boy David Cameron calls an unnecessary referendum on EU membership. Loses it, causes economic disaster and anti-immigrant tension. And still remains an incredibly rich man. The rest of us face recession, job losses, further cuts to public services and a new government led by racists. Thanks Dave.
Meanwhile the spotlight is also on the EU. They must come to terms with the many and various reasons why the Brits have node thus extraordinary decision. They must soul search. It is not only the swivel eyed loons of Britain who can see fundamental problems with the nature of the EU.
Other European countries will watch how the EU handles Britain now. A senior member of the EU. Paid its dues. Followed the rules. Contributed in enormous and various ways. Shouldered fair share of the burden. Now the EU should say thank you for all you have done. Sorry to see you go. Wish us luck. Help create a better future for all concerned. Anything less will be noticed with concer by eurosceptics in Holland and other countries, and will add oil to their flames.

Ian Bostridge I didn’t have this contest. It was ha(r?)d for me. Imposed by a party with a small minority of the vote in order to solve their parochial （［視野］の狭い） problems and won by a smaller margin than they are demanding of trade union ballots. No other country in the civilised world would make such a major constitutional change in such a cavalier（むとんちゃくな,傲慢な） way. And it is not at all clear what the question answered means.

More than two million people have signed a parliamentary petition calling for a second referendum of the UK’s membership of the EU.
An unprecedented surge of people trying to access the page briefly caused the official petition website to crash as many Britons shocked by the referendum result tried to engineer a re-run.
By Saturday morning more than one million people had signed – more than ten times the figure at which an issue is formally considered for a debate in parliament.
The petition, set up by William Oliver Healey, states: “We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the Remain or Leave vote is less than 60% based on a turnout less than 75%, there should be another referendum.”
On Thursday 51.9% of votes were cast to leave the EU, versus 48.1% for remaining part of the bloc.
Meanwhile over 130,000 people signed a petition calling on London Mayor Sadiq Khan to declare the capital independent from the UK and apply to join the European Union.
However elections professor John Curtice said such online campaigns had no chance of success and that a million supporters was “chicken feed” compared to the seventeen million who backed Brexit in the referendum. （以下略）
6月24日（金）午後。 今年のコンサートはみなとみらいホール（小ホール）でした。
楽しみにしている友人のコンサート。この頃は舞台にも昔の友人が増え、観客席にも大学の時の友人が増えつつあるのがうれしいことです。
1年前ぐらいから初めて本格的（？）なVoice Trainingを受けた目と耳で聞くと、面白い発見もありました。やっぱり、発声の基本がしっかりしていることが一番大切だと・・・、改めて思いました。「口角を上げてネ」・・学生の頃誰よりも美しい声で歌っていた友人が、そう言っていました。そうか、いつでも原理は同じなんだ・・・。
それにしても観客席の大勢の元気な女性たち！！（中高年の女性ばかり） 私も立派にその一員です。

いつも近所のフローリストさんに作ってもらう素敵なブーケ。今年はリボンも素敵でした。

明月院と円覚寺。有名なのはもちろん、明月院。参詣者（観光客？）が多いのも明月院。でも境内の壮大な広がり、杉木立との対比の鮮やかさ、何よりも紫陽花そのものの美しさで円覚寺を再発見しました。
春、福寿草が咲く、入って左手の寺の庭。ひっそりと人もなく、アジサイもそっと咲いていました。
この季節は、どうにもこうにも混雑が激しくて行く気にもなれないのだが、数年に一度は、どんなふうに変わってしまったかだけでも確かめようと出かけてみる。
ガイドブックにでてくるような薄い水色の昔ながらのアジサイは徐々に（どんどん？）減り、園芸種のような色鮮やかな種類が増えていく。それに、あの混雑！写真を撮るには人ごみと人の頭を避けて、時折人がいなくなる瞬間を待って、素早く、とりあえずシャッターを切る（実際はスマホのボタンをとササッと押す）。
下のアジサイは、1本の花木で様々な色！びっくり。
わァ、ひとがいっぱい（私もいる！）
